Walk Worthy; We’ve Won!
Philippians 1:27-30 (ESV)
27Only let your manner of life be worthy[a] of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel,28and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear sign to them of their destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God.29For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake,30engaged in the same conflict that you saw I had and now hear that I still have.

1) People living worthy of the gospel
● 1 Samuel 18:1 - The soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
● Numbers 13:30-31 -30But Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, “Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.” 31Then the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are.”
2) Proof of Destruction and Salvation
● Genesis 3:15 - “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
● 2 Thessalonians 1:5-10 -5This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering— 6since
indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those
who afflict you,7and to grant relief to you who are afflicted

● Matthew 16:22 - “And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from you, LORD! This shall never happen to you.” ● Romans 8:17-18 -17And if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.18For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. ● Luke 9:26 - “For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when He comes in His glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.”
● John 15:18-20 -18“If the world hates you, know that it hated me before it hated you.19If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.20Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A
servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me,
they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will
also keep yours.”
● Matt 5:11-12 -11“Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely
on my account. 12=Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Discussion Questions for E-Groups and further personal application 1. Do you consider it a big deal that God has called you by His gospel into His glory and excellence? What sinful habits, patterns or ways are currently making up your manner of life that you need to repent of? Be specific. Why is consistency in our manner of life important?
2. Who are some people in our church community that you believe are faithfully striving and laboring for the faith of the gospel? How can you personally encourage them this week?
3. What is the danger of leaving disunity unchecked among the people of God?
4. Think about any areas of your life that you may be shrinking back from gospel courage out of fear of suffering. Ask the LORD to forgive any fear of man or cowardliness He may expose and ask for the strength and power to demonstrate gospel courage in those areas.
5. Who can you encourage this week with reminders about some of the promises of the salvation we have received (and will receive) from God?
